A ”lucky” project - NOROC

Terre des hommes Romania launches a new initiative aimed at improving the quality of educational services, in particular for children in rural areas.

20 schools from 5 departments will be involved in the NOROC project and the intervention aims at decreasing the risk of school dropout for 650 children at risk, improving the quality of educational services for 180 children with special educational needs (SEN). It will also increase the rate of transition from primary to lower secondary education, and from lower secondary to upper secondary education by 1% respectively.

In the short term, the project aims at combating school dropout and at facilitating the transition from primary to lower secondary education, and from lower secondary to upper secondary education for 650 children at risk.  On the medium and long term, the intervention aims at improving the quality of educational services by providing training to 48  teachers and school mediators in methods of work with children at risk of school dropout and / or with special educational needs.

The target groups are: children at risk of school dropout as well as children with SEN from the primary and lower secondary education, who are in one or several of the vulnerable situations in particular from rural areas from 5 departments in Romania (Dolj, Olt, Gorj, Vâlcea și Bacău); their parents; teachers from 20 schools; children who attend these schools; their parents. 

The project ’The Initiative ’NOROC in Education’ – A NOrwegian – ROmanian Initiative for Quality in Education’ benefits from a 998.000 € grant from Norway through the Local Development Program. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of educational services, especially in rural areas in 5 counties of Romania.
