“We are graded according to what the teacher thinks of us (those who are not good get lower grades). We are also graded according to our results in other subjects. Children who learn more are taken to the blackboard less often. There are teachers who bring out the blackboard, especially those who don’t know”.
Students understand how random the grading is sometimes, and it’s no wonder that in those cases their engagement drops and the vicious cycle of poor education is endless.
As part of the NOROC project, we are in the process of consulting teachers and students of grades 4-5 and 8-9 from 20 schools, to find out what the children’s needs are and how we can contribute to the quality of education, preventing dropouts and supporting students with needs special educational.
Thus, I have also discovered wonderful teachers, who strive to reduce the discrepancies between students and discrimination, who intervene alongside parents, but also teachers who still see non-formal education methods as a fad that hides the students’ disinterest. Following the assessment in the schools, we will build personalized interventions so that “luck” is the last factor that the graduates of these schools would need. Every child has the right to education!
The project ’The Initiative ’NOROC in Education’ – A NOrwegian – ROmanian Initiative for Quality in Education’ benefits from a 998.000 € grant from Norway through the Local Development Program. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of educational services, especially in rural areas in 5 counties of Romania.
