Special workshops with and for parents were held in Dolj, Olt, Gorj, Valcea and Bacau counties from May to June 2023. The aim of the meetings was to get to know the community of parents or family members of pupils, and to enhance their skills through the use of interactive working methods.
Although the specifics of each community are different, each of the participants assessed the type of relationship that exists with both the children and the school. The workshops discussed the role of education and the importance of involvement in children’s educational journey. This helped to create a framework for sharing each parent’s experiences from the school years, to reflect on what can be kept, what can be improved, but also what is different in learning styles while emphasising the need for teamwork: parents – pupils – teachers. All this, of course, so that the results are conducive to the development of the maximum potential of each child.
Under the careful guidance of the teachers, parents participated in the workshops, both as a team and individually, creating posters with various messages, portraits or drawings to encourage and motivate the pupils. Teachers also introduced the topic of role models and careers to children’s individual needs during the workshops.
During the workshops we found reasons for parents to be proud, stories of grandmothers raising grandchildren, a parent who only arrived at the end of the meeting because he works but is raising 3 children on his own, parents who were accompanied by children who were not yet in school because they had no one to leave them at home with, parents who came from 10 km away, and all these stories helped to create a basis for the community to continue to grow together for the good of the children.
